Kensington 2 Woodies 5. A game of two halves with Kensington going 2-0 up with the wind behind them. In truth we probably should have been even at half time with the chances we created but we knew that 2 goals was not that much of a lead with the strong wind. The wind seemed to get stronger in the 2nd half and we scored early on and after that there was only one winner. 2 for Andy B and a hat trick for Ben Mitchell. Slight worry for us was Sarj pulling a hammie after 15 mins but hopefully he will be fine as we have some big games coming up in the next month.

Kensington looked a tidy side at times but against that wind it was always going to be tough. A good win for us and showed good patience coming back from 2-0 down.

Heard that Slip beat Pips 4-0 and the title championship probably down to us, BS XI and Slip now. And Slip keep marching on. I keep waiting for them to drop points but alas not just yet.....

Thornbury Baptist Church 3 Hilfields Baptist 1

Huge win for us which moves us firmly into mid table. Both sides played some great football on a blustery day. Hilfields started the brightest but we then got better as the half went on. On half time a lapse in midfield led to a cross down the right and a good finish meant Hilifields went in 1-0 up.

We didn't panic and equalised early on in the second half with a cracking finish from Joe Maiden. Hilfields had a 1 on 1 which the striker put wide, and we scored on the hour when a tame shot from Louis Watkins beat the keeper. I felt we were the stronger side but Hilfields always looked dangerous on the break. On full time Maiden broke down the left and squared the ball to Cookie who made no mistake.

Hilfields' conduct was as we all expect from them - absolutely exemplary and I don't think there was one bad incident in the whole match (except an old man's challenge taking down their left midfielder - Blushing ).

Kens 2 v 5 Woodies
A game that was fairly won by Woodies but ruined by the windy weather. We dominated the first half but 2 nil never looked enough when you know the wind will be strong in the second half and we have no recognised keeper (hope Marcin is back next week). I started in goal and actually made a couple of saves (I am also claiming an assist for our second goal!) but woodies are the best team going forward we have faced and they capitalised well in the second half. Bigger games to come for us!

As Eakes said, we won 4-0. Played with the wind 1st half, and after about 35 minutes, Pips were probably very happy with the score 0-0. The a cross from Tom went in at the back post (the 3rd time he's scored from crosses this season - he only has 4 goals in total. Shortly after, Bods turned on a loose ball on the edge of the area to curl an unstoppable shot into the top corner.

2nd half, and Phil PnJ's pre-match info proved useless as Ali Mac didn't go in goal as he'd told me Angry (Pips were missing Andy Newell). However, we were superb, played some of our best footy of the season and scored further goals from Dre with another nice finish from the edge of the area, before Spring looped one over the keeper after his pass to me had ended up back at his own feet (without touching anyone else).

Wind was crazy, but we managed to keep Ken fairly quiet and pretty much every effort Pips had were either off target or straight at Shearsy in our goal. Full value for the win today, I think we were generally the hungrier team.

Castle Green 1-2 VCF Santos - GFA Primary

Another monumental battle between the 2 sides this season. First half ended 0-0 and we were a bit fortunate.

Second half we took the lead through Dan Powell, although it was arguably against the run of play. Jack Williams powered home a header from a free kick delivery to equalise and I didn't see who got the Santos winner.

We were missing 6 players that would have played had the game gone ahead on either the 14th or 7th, but that just opened the door for others in the squad to come in. I thought our make shift back line did well all considered and I certainly wouldn't offer the changes as any reason or excuse because the depth of talent to cover at Castle Green is great to have.

Santos though were the better side, back line in particular was excellent. Though a tough semi v Broadlands awaits them on 18/2, I reckon they've got a great chance of going all the way and we wish them good luck.

Dan, I got the distinct impression from our 2 minute meeting in Tesco's that you have an air of confidence about your title ambition!!! On the face of it you'd have to say that you'd fancy your run in compared to ours or BS XI's but we'll see. Good to have a new face challenging at the top, and should be a great run in for the title.

Gordano 4 - 4 BUCU

Another game strongly influenced by the blustery conditions. Gordano were 4-1 up at half time with the wind behind. Our lads fought hard in the second half and in the end we were disappointed not to nick a winner although by the end of the match the pitch was a mud bath making it hard to play any sort of decent football. Gordano are a great bunch of lads and the game was played in exemplary spirit.

I'm confident but certainly not overly so. Fully aware that there is a long way to go yet.
Congratulations to Woodies.

That Eakes was right and the criticism was unjust!

You have no idea how close Eakes was to being wrong and if you read the thread, it wasn't me who said his prediction was "harsh".

If anyone from Santos reads the board, I'm happy to put them in touch with John Spring if they want. He will know a lot about Broadlands, who are largely made up of his fellow teachers and ex-students from their school team that he ran last year. Whether he'll want to divulge any info though......

2nd half, and Phil PnJ's pre-match info proved useless as Ali Mac didn't go in goal as he'd told me Angry (Pips were missing Andy Newell).

Now, I can explain, firstly I was wrong (obviously) but Ali did say he would go in goal in the 2nd half - maybe he was telling me a porkie pie. My biggest mistake was letting you into the secret in the first place! But as both teams were trying to warm up without getting blown away by gale force winds you would have noticed the absence of Newell. Lesson learnt yesterday - never give away information pre-match, especially to Slip!

Match was ruined by the wind (as most were yesterday) but Slip did cope better, as Nath mentioned at 0-0 we were fairly happy and it was even-stevens in my opinion - the first was fortunate and lucky (wind assisted), the 2nd a great goal. The match was no-where near won at HT though, but we just couldn't gain momentum or any sort of constant pressure to test Shearsy in the Slip goal. Two breakaway moves and two clinical finishes after slack defending led to the scoreline being harsh (only in my opinion). That's the difference, two shots (on target, two goals - clinical).

I reckon Slip definately have a chance of the title, although don't want to big them up too much (!). Not the best attacking team we've played (although scoring 4 would argue otherwise) but defensively solid and they doubled up on Ken well. Good luck to the Slip lads. We missed big Brian and the fiery Wes up front but we can't expect to get anything from games if we keep conceding so many goals.

Roll on Kensignton, let's hope it's less windy.......

Powerhouse 2 Bristol Pistols 1
Firstly, I have to make a special mention to Pistols who agreed to use one of their players to ref the match as our ref had to pull out due to injury.

Both teams knew the importance of this game so we both kept it tight and probed for a chance without over committing. Half time came and I was a little concerned that we hadn't used the wind advantage we had in the first half. The second half was a more fiery affair. We scored with about 30mins to play. That meant Pistols had to push forward more, which they did. We still looked solid but a wind assisted corner beat us and flew into the top corner. It looked like the game was heading for a draw but with 5mins to go our midfielder picked up the ball in Pistols half and left one fly. I was standing behind him when he took the shot and can't remember seeing a ball move so much. I don't think the Pistols keeper had a chance.

Good three points for us but worthless if we don't get another 3 next week when we play Pistols at their ground.
