Div 1
Some pretty big games in Div 1 this weekend which features 4 out of the top 5 playing each other - Super Saturday some might say !!
Slip v Pip n Jay - Pip's form has been a bit patchy of late but a good GFA win has brought them back to winning ways. Slip's great run finally cam to an end on Saturday in the GFA but their league form is good. Tough one to call, I'll go with a Slip win, narrowly at 2-1.
Kensignton v Christchurch - not sure which Christchurch will turn up but Kensington will be looking to climb the table if player availability allows. However, I'm going with an away win.
Widcombe v Thornbury - TBC's form is good of late meaning this is less of a 6 pointer than it might have been a few weeks ago. TBC to consolidate mid table and get a win in Bath.
Woodies v BS XI - 2nd part of Super Saturday. I feared a few weeks ago we would be missing our young stars as there was a youth event on but such is the draw for this game that it got re-scheduled. So other than injury to a key player we will be at full strength, as I am sure BS XI will be. So should be a cracker. Both teams are in good form so lets hope for a great game. Nath has lent me his "Beating BS XI for Dummies" guide which has made interesting reading.
Div 2
BUCU v Pistols - home win Gordano v Santos - Santos probably still missing Davo but should still have enough, away win Nailsea v Powerhouse - home win Rock v Castle Green - away win with some football cliches in the match report Welton v Corinthians of Bath - struggling to see why Welton are bottom but probably says how strong a league the 2nd division is now, Welton to get a much needed win
Div 3
Carmel v Racing - away win Hartcliffe - OCR - away win Hayhill v Suburbs - big game to stay in touch at the top, away win
Shield
Hillfields v Grace - this says its Hillfields first team but I think its their reserves. Hurry up and lose please Hillfields so we can remember exactly what is going on !!!

Hopefully the weather will not be a big factor, there appears to be quite a bit of rain forecast for this week. One pitch at Bath Uni was out of action on Saturday due to a very wet patch at one end, which is often the case on that pitch. The one I was on was soft and it would not have taken much rain to put it out of action.
Here's hoping the rain stays away.

I think Santos have their re scheduled GFA Cup match this Saturday that was miraculously called off by there oppo last week due to an unfit pitch! Must be these storms of biblical proportions weve had lately!! ( or their oppo were a bit short) Green Army!"You don't stop playing football because you get old, you get old because you stop playing football"Mangotsfield and Castle Green URC

There were a couple of Bath league games off at the weekend due to waterlogged pitches. It depends on how well the pitches drain. Bath Uni is used to be heavy clay, but they have put a lot of sand down in recent years which has improved the condition of the pitches.

I hadn't realised that Santos didn't play, they will definitely have to play this weekend as that's the GFA rules. Good luck to them, they would have a great chance to win the Primary (as does Castle Green) so it would be good for them to progress. Hmm BBC forecast for Bristol doesn't look too bad. The one thing our groundsman said was that due to the lack of games being called off this season the pitches are looking a bit worn as often when games are cancelled they might not be playedd on for 2 weeks so can recover a bit. I reckon we'll be OK for this weekend though, we are lucky in that we have the choice of 2 pitches albeit that one is a tad on the small side for our expansive game

Should be an interesting weekend provided all games survive (haven't seen the forecast myself, but Chris has me worried now). We'll be hoping for a Woodies win, or actually a draw might be the best result for us. I can't help but feel that BSXI will just edge it by a goal though. Expecting a tough game for us against Pips. I've been told that Pips will be missing Wes as his suspension will have started, but annoyingly, it looks like James Cook will be out injured for us, and if there's one game we really want him for, it's Pips. Only player I've ever seen give as good as he gets with Big Brian. Other than that, I think we're looking in fairly good shape. Just need to make sure we start taking a few more of the chances we're creating - touch of Liverpool about us the last couple of games.... Only BCFA team to beat BSXI 4 times since 12th December 2009.....

I've been appointed to a game on wednesday night in the senior amateur cup which was postponed on saturday due to a wet pitch - couldn't believe it! Congratulations to Woodies.

The Bath forecast is for rain on Thursday and at the moment looks as if it could quite heavy. Friday looks dry and very windy so the wind could help dry out the pitches. At least we are not in Scotland with the snow, we enough of that this time last year.

They will drop points in the remainder of the season, whereas BSXI may not. Still think BSXI will win by 3. Congratulations to Woodies.

The Bath weather forecast is showing that the temp is going below freezing on Friday night -1 and you can add another 2 degrees to that out of town, and could still be that at KO time. Went passed a pitch yesterday lunchtime and it looked rather soggy especially in one goalmouth. Here is hoping the predicted downpour for this afternoon does not come. Seems like this could be the first really dodgy Saturday with the weather this season. Yes I am a pessimist, sadly my glass is half empty and never half full:

Slip v Pips off. Its 4 degrees, sunny and a tiny bit of frost on the top surface 40 mins before the game. Absolute shocker. Assuming the ref had other plans....

Er Fordy watch your mouth. You weren't even at the ground! I was still there at 9.40 and it was still rock solid. Yes by half time it prob would have been ok but what if someone suffered an injury in the first half? Correct decision by the referee. Congratulations to Woodies.

I was half a mile away and unless the artic conditions were confined to Bawa then it was a joke. I've just seen 8 year olds playing less than a mile away. Within 2 minutes of playing the pitch would have been fine. You've got to be stupid to think there's any deep frost in the ground anywhere near Bristol after one night of dipping just below freezing. Take your rule book out of your pants Flynn and man up.

The BAWA is very exposed. I don't think it was safe. For one night of frost, the ground was as hard as concrete. Congratulations to Woodies.
