In a friendly woodies 3 hillfields 2. A good run around and Rich's lads gave a good account of themselves. A world class double save at the end of the game by the woodies stand in keeper to preserve the lead

Oasis 0 - 2 Nailsea
First off let me start by saying I hope Oasis's centre forward is ok, he took a bang to the head (clash of heads) and then rolled his ankle. Get well soon.
The score doesnt reflect really what happened in the game, our finishing was sloppy, on the plus side we played some good football and overall we are very happy with the performance.
Found out after the game that Oasis had several players missing so it could of been alot different. The game was played with good spirit from both sides, good luck for the rest of the season OCR.

Castle Green 0-2 Counterslip Really believed we had a chance today, but undone by one decent strike and a scabby own goal! Apart from that we didn't do much wrong in a game of few chances at either end. So disappointed with the result, but pleased to see how we measured up against top of the league. Now we can concentrate our efforts on earning the right to take on opposition like that every week next season. Well done to Counterslip this morning. Powerhouse 0 - 7 Santos Pretty straightforward. I opened the scoring, Jack W got his second hat-trick in a row, Ewen got two and Twanny picked up one.

Hillfields 0 Thornbury Baptist Church 3
A tough game today played on a bobbly narrow pitch. A cracking volley from Cat Hancox, followed by second half goals from Dave Tushingham (penalty) and Chris Beddoes sealed the win. Hillfields caused us problems with their great movement between defence and attack but stand in keeper Dom Bareau managed to keep the home side out.
Had a couple of fringe players start today and they acquitted themselves really well. Impressed with Hillfields, they had a really good attitude towards the game even when it was slipping away from them.
I think the Southey Avenue Playing Fields ground gets the 'best changing rooms' award. A shame I didn't have a set of marker pens to use the whiteboard on the changing room wall! Noughts and crosses before a game normally goes down well.

Congratulations to Welton Sub who correctly predicted that Kensington would win affer extra time. We did indeed win after extra time as it went to penalties! I am not sure he predicted the drama that unfolded this morning though. This match was very strange to play in, some was good, some was bad.
We started very brightly and John C opened the scoring. A strange two minute period followed which saw Suburbs score twice from their only 2 chances in the half (can't fault that, superbly clinical). We then continued to dominate the game but missed quite a few chances (forwards I am being kind). 1:2 HT.
In 2nd half John C scored again and Glen headed in a corner, 3:2 and we were still dominating possession, terrritory and chances. All credit to Suburbs though who scored again after a mistake from our keeper. We were getting very frustrated and they defended very well throughout the game with men behind the ball. Full time 3:3.
In extra time we scored early and thought we had won it but should have known better as one of the Suburbs subs headed in a corner to equalise again. Then the drama. As we laid seige to the suburbs goal, that was very well marshaled by their keeper, a cross/shot looped over the keeper and may or may not have crossed the line. As a centre half i can't comment but quite a few of our lads thought it was over the line. The linesman kept his flag down and the ref couldn't give it from his position. The ensuing melee saw our striker given his marching orders not helped by the Suburbs manager's conduct (for which he did apologise afterwards). The game continued and as we threw men forward Neil was brought down in the box and the ref gave a penalty, all credit to Neil who got straight up and said it was not a penalty. The Ref recinded the decision and the game ended 4:4. I had to leave before the penalties (due to kids party) but understand we scored all 5 and their keeper missed his. 5:3 win on pens.
Well done Neil for his honesty - vindicated in the end by the result. We are not claiming the high moral ground though as some of our conduct was poor and we will work to imporve that. Least we managed 11 players out this week and hopefully we can kick on from here and maybe even take some of our chances!

Nath, don't lower yourself to Davo standards. It was a good way wide. Good, professional win today where we could have come unstuck. Having only 11 was tough and especially when we went down to 10 for 20 mins following an injury! Like Ian said, not many chances created, most were off target, I can only remember 3 saves. Good luck in your promotion march Ian. Congratulations to Woodies.

Good game today with both sides playing with a smile on their face. Think we hit the bar 5 times. Had a little too much going forward for Welton who had a good spell at the beginning of the 2nd half. Their 12 and 13 looked good prospects... looking forward to Slip in the Semi. gaffer

Our lads put on an excellent defending display today against a good attacking performance from Kensington but we did capitalise on their not so good defending. Its a shame we didn't come away with the win but we will take lots of positives from today. Good luck to Kensington in the next round! Suburbs United

Just worth drawing people's attention to the game of the week next Saturday as we take on Castle Green with the top of the table at stake. Going to be an interesting game for us, as its a while since we've actually been tested and I'm pretty sure that Ian's lot will ask a lot of questions of us. Had some nice feedback from the ref today who apparently couldn't believe we were in Div 2 as apparently we're better than any of the Div 1 sides he's reffed all year (don't think he mentioned which sides he'd actually reffed though).

And on this subject, I am banned from VCF Santos' training this week. Does anyone else train on a Monday night and can I join you to help keep this old battered body ticking over please? Seriously Ian? Sounds like you've won the mental battle already . Unless they are worried you might nobble a few of their guys. To be honest though from my own experience of Davo at training he does a fairly good job himself !! We train on a Monday night at 8pm up on the astro at Old Bristolians. The astro is back out on Longwood Lane, turn right and you'll see the playing fields on the left and the lights for the astro at the end of the field.

Eakes wrote:Anyone know the pips v Christchurch score? Not bothered. Going for a treble this season so we'll happily take anyone on . And therein lies the problem of having scorelines like 10-1, 7-0, 6-1 etc and a silly goal difference. Don't really know how good - or bad - we are. Which is why Saturday's game should be brilliant for both sides in terms of laying down a marker. Sadly am resigned to a non-playing role at training tomorrow as I apprently have 'acute internal inflammation' in my knee. Asked my physio - by which I mean my sister - whether it could have anything to do with fags and booze, and she said no! Desperate to be fit for the weekend though. Also desperate for an injury crisis to hit Castle Green that means Chappel has to come in to central defence . Apparently if they win he'll be joining us for our team curry in the evening. Obviously prepared to take a rest from the elite-sportsman diet that he normally sticks to.
