Castle Green 4-0 BUCU

Relieved to get this game on after Packers was called off at midday yesterday. Managed to get in at Filwood and all the phone calls, emails and texts to get everyone there paid off, as this was another cracking Castle Green/BUCU encounter.

Fortunately, this time we managed to shrug off our losing streak v BUCU this time out and produced a solid display and a 4 goal win.

Lads played well this morning. Goals from Nick Gilleece, George Malyckyj, Mike Clifton and...............Matt Comley (who needs to seriously sort out his goal celebration, sorry mate but whatever you were doing with Damien shouldn't happen in a public place)!!

Good day at the office

SAS 3 Slip 4

First of all, the ref no-showed, so I took the whistle. SAS started well, and were 2 up in 15 mins. I think Luca got both goals. We pulled one back through Spring who buried an almost identical chance to one he missed 2 mins earlier. Then Tom hit a wide free kick that crept in at the back post. HT

2nd half, and the controversy I was hoping to avoid. An SAS player jumped over a Slip player in the box, arms draped over his shoulders. I tried to take the teams out of it and decided it was a pen, which Spring converted. SAS had a shout for a pen, which I honestly don't think was, and I'd like to think if the positions were reversed, I'd still have made the same decisions. Moody looked to have made the game safe with a 4th for us with about 10 mins left, but an 89th minute SAS goal made it a nervy finish.

Overall, the game was played in an excellent spirit I thought, and credit to the SAS boys who didn't complain much at all about either decision mentioned above, and got on with the game.

Nailsea 1 - 3 Santos

Good result for us against a team that I think were (maybe still are?) above us in the table. Managed to stop them playing and produced some OK stuff ourselves - at one point in the first half we strung about 20 passes together, which did make me question what had happened to Santos in my absence. Think we pretty much dominated the game and should have put it to bed a bit earlier than we did to be honest, but our final pass and touch in and around their box let us down on occassions, with me being guilty on quite a few occassions. Jack W opened the scoring early on and I added a second about 5 minutes later. Nailsea pulled on back midway through the 1st half against the run of play and we then had to wait until about 5 mins from the end for Ewen's shot to make the game safe - may have taken a deflection. May have taken two.

Congratulations to castle green who were the better side today. With a few of our first choice players away this weekend for one reason or another this was always going to be a tough game and so it proved to be.

The damage was done in the first half with some inexperienced defending from us and some clinical finishing from castle green. 3-0 at half time. I thought we battled much better in the second half and was disappointed not to get at least a goal back.

Well done to Nick who I think got man of the match for our team. He was unlucky not to score from a couple of good opportunities and worked tirelessly on the right wing today.

Hillfields v Kensington was off

but.......

Hartcliffe 1 v Hillfields Res 4 (reserves first win)

The reserve team played really well first half with some good football on show and Through Leon 2, Andy N (captian) and Dany we were 4-0 up at halftime. A poor start to the second half meant we conceded a goal and that put us on the back foot a bit as Hartcliffe sensed a comeback but 20 mins in we settled and then when to try and kill the game off. We couldn't score again but we did our best, hitting the woodwork 3 times and also woeful finishing letting us down.

Great attitude from both teams and great for us reserves to finally earn a win and move off of the bottom of the BCFA :-)
Has seen 4 lads through his team become Christians in the last 18 months or so - How awesome is that?

Suburbs 0 - Grace Church 0

A rare goalless draw!

Hard fought game, could have gone either way. Suburbs were on top in the first half, but much more even in the second with both sides having good chances. We were missing a few key players so pleased with the way we battled for the result.

I can only assume those deflections weren't near you davo as you would have claimed it. Great win for Slip, never nice to have to ref your own team Nath but I think if you could trust anyone to be fair that would be you.

Strange game this morning... I felt we were on top for most of the first half but somehow ended up going in on level terms. Second half was a more scrappy affair with us playing some good stuff but getting to the final third and choking... no options or flair which is something that i haven't seen from us so far this season. In previous weeks we have been getting bags of chances and not taking them, and today, we took our chances but didn't get many.

'Slip utilised their height up top well with Dan flicking on effectively and we didn't really cope with that today. But fair play to the 'Slip boys, they scored more than us and deserved to win the game.

MASSIVE thanks to Nath this morning. The ref overslept and woke up at 11 but Nath did a fantastic job. Let's face it, nobody wants to do this but he took it on and did a great job. Nath - the penalty might have been soft, but not really controversial. Other refs might have given it too. No complaints from us on either decision. Thanks again.

Also, we shared a prayer this morning for Luca's Dad who suffered a stroke this last week. He's at home recovering but as always with things such as this, it's never easy. Luca has asked me to pass on his thanks to the Slip lads who said some kind words before and after the game. I'd like to add my thanks to that too.

Pips 5-2 Nicholas Wanderers 'A'

Goals from Ken ONI (3) (1 pen), Wes Sousa (pen) & last
but by no means least Ali Mac following a flowing move
full of back heels & step overs! HT 3-0, let it slip a bit but they
were a fair & not as bad as their league position suggests.
That's 7 on the bounce, maybe our best ever sequence in our history!
Next up: BSXI.

Powerhouse lost 4-2 (don't ask) and I think Pistols drew 3-3.

Just thought it was worth mentioning that all of the posts about the 'Slip v SAS game rather sum up what the league is about. I like our football.

Nope. Not really. Probably the result of a few years of looking at it obsessively when I was managing Santos (and by obsessively, I mean looking at it on a Thursday and then looking again on a Friday when there wouldn't have been any bloody change anyway). I quite like just turning up and playing. BigGrin

Great win for us yesterday. Wasn't very positive when we were 2 down, didn't see us coming back but we rallied well and we have shown on numerous occasions that we can come from behind. Years gone by we would have bickered and argued at 2 nil down but we are much more of a team now which is great. Nath did well as referee (NJ - you still owe him £20 ;-)). Never easy reffing your own team but for me it was a definate penalty. One of those 'if it was outside the box it would be afoul all day long'. And their penalty shout was nothing more than a shout, Dre headed the ball and they bumped into each other.

Nice to have Tim back, and what a goal. Nathan SAS left stranded as he dinked it over his head :-).

What a start to the season for us. Top of the league and lovin' every moment, especially as we are above BSXI :-)
Congratulations to Woodies.

Oh dan how times have changed, you just used to want to be above us. Definitely title challengers now with that mentality! I have just realised that Nath stepped in for an away game as well which is even more creditable. As Davo says, I like that about our league that things like this can happen and everyone gets on with it, sas and slip are a credit to the league.

All this talk of SAS v 'Slip and no one has mentioned Spring's miss! Squared ball by Tim to Spring who was well within 6 yard box and he kicked it backwards!
Congratulations to Woodies.

Dan, I thought Tim had moved away, back for good or just a bit of a one off. Really nice bloke as well as a good player, big plus for you if you have him back full time.
