Woodies 3 Slip 3, or maybe more accurately Mitchells 3 Slip 3 as 3 different Mitchells scored for us. Game begun with Slip on top as the reshuffle for Woodies due to players missing needed time to take shape. And it was Slip who took the lead from a Dan Flynn cross that was headed goalwards but a good save from Ash kept it out only for a Slip player to follow up and score. Then controversy, Nath was put through on goal, flag went up for offisde as did the cries of offside from the side but the ref somehow overruled the lino and Nath scored. Very disappointed with this as I was side on and believed he was a yard offside. But our reaction was brilliant and Ben Mitchell scored a header when he nipped round the back and guided it past for 2-1. Then a great move down our right was finished well from Pez Mitchell to make it 2-2. Amongst all this we hit the post and a moment of classy sportsmanship from Nath when our keeper and Peachy collided and got head injuries he chose not to play on when he could easily have scored. Cheers Nath, not sure I would have done the same thing so my hat is firmly tipped to you for doing so.

2nd half I felt we came out really strong and had the lions share of play, we hit the post again and Powelly made a couple of decent saves and we were guilty of not taking chances but a scrappy goal was scored by sub Joey Mitchell to take Woodies into the lead. At that point we had 1-2 good chances to kill the game off from Wayne, Joey and Si Rotheram and you always felt we needed the 4th goal to finish them off. Slip were now enjoying a lot of the ball but weren't really creating clear cut chances until the last couple of minutes when the ball was won down their left and a cross whipped in, Peachy tried to get something on it but it only went it, very harsh on him who had a brilliant game.

Some might say a draw was a fair result but of course I would look at the chances we had to finish them off at 3-2 which we didn't take. But a much improved performance compared with our last couple of league outings and hopefully we can get through the next couple of weeks with stag do's and church weekends away taking out quite a few players.

Cheers Slip for the, as usual, tight and engrossing game.

Gordano 3 v 2 Welton Rangers

Another disappointing defeat for us today. I don't know if we should take any solace from the fact that, unlike the past 2 weeks, we can consider ourselves very hard done by not to have got a draw.

We bossed the first half and went 1-0 up from a Craig Maidment goal, one minute before half time, but somehow managed to go into the break level after a silly mistake in first half injury time gave Gordano an equaliser.
We started the second half as we ended the first with another individual error letting Gordano in for the lead. A third goal, an unmarked volley from a corner came before we came back to life, and then dominated possession for the rest of the match (although Gordano were very good and fast on the counter attack, always looking dangerous). A great strike from Andrew Coombs made the last ten minutes competitive, but we were unable to get an equaliser.

All credit to Gordano who have improved immeasurably since we last played eachother, and who are clearly going to score a lot of goals this season. Certainly no mugs.

A QUESTION TO THE BOARD...
After we sportingly kicked the ball out so Gordano's injured goalkeeper could receive treatment, a Gordano player took the resultant throw-in, sending the ball back to his keeper...who then proceeded to pick up the ball. A clear and obvious passback.
I was amazed that the Gordano player I was marking, as well as apparently the goalkeeper and defender, were not aware of this rule (which has been in place for a decade or so, now?).
Much to my annoyance our striker then 'sportingly' took the indirect free-kick, passing it back to the goalkeeper to pick up legally.

What would you have done? Personally, though I embrace sporting play, I think if somebody's foolish enough not to know the rules of the game (at this age), they should face the 'punishment'.

Corinthians of Bath 1-3 Castle Green

What a late show that was!

One down from early on after a failed offside trap let Corinthians in. It then stayed that way till deep into the second half when we finally equalised then got two late ones to take all three points.

All credit to Corinthians though, at one up in the second half they went 3-5-2, bravery to be admired and probably to counter our midfield, but they were solid and resilient and it almost got them something from the game.

All three goals from Dan Powell, much deserved perfect hattrick (head, right foot then the favoured left foot) after an incredible work rate in the searing heat

Thornbury 2 - 1 SAS

SAS goal from S Dayman

Fair play to Thornbury, they didn't have a lot of possession but when they did have it they worked us hard.
After 30 mins of half decent football SAS seemed to wilt and soon looked well off the pace. Many players missing which is really starting to become our Achilles heel. Nath made his feelings known after the match, so really hoping we have a proper squad to select from next week, especially given the level of effort and work he puts in every week to get us together.

Our players will have to use this result to remind us of the importance of being available every week if we genuinely think we can challenge at the top of Church League Division 1.

Congrats to Thornbury on their first win of the season

Powerhouse 2 - 2 BUCU

Not sure what to say about this one. Probably a fair result, I'd say that BUCU had the better of it early on while Powerhouse finished strongly and had us under real pressure for the last 10 minutes or so.

The game was incredibly stop-start, with at least 4 significant injuries that meant the flow of the game was being constantly interupted. The good news is that our player Andy who got taken to hospital with a possible broken leg is back home and hobbling around.

Powerhouse were new opposition for us and we were'nt sure what to expect but they're a pretty useful team going forward who could cause some upsets in this league.

In response to Eakes...

Draw was a fair result. Nathan's goal may have been offside (I don't actually know, it was a very late flag after your guys appealed. Late flags are the best ones but i wouldn't expect McGrath to know that) but he could have scored but didn't when he had an open goal after the collision between the keeper and JP. Maybe a 'dodgy' decision was reward for what he did. You've also forgotten the good chances we had, Spring twice shot across goal and wide and Nathan also did when they were both in good positions.

And it wasn't an og by Peachy. Phil C crossed it and it was on target and only took a slight deflection off Jon. Phil's second goal of his 19 yr career!
Congratulations to Woodies.

Sounds like the referee got the decision spot on. What your player then does is up to him.

Lots of interruptions caused by injuries. In addition to the bucu player going off in an ambulance we had one of our guys taken to hospital after the game with a broken nose and another with a badly swollen ankle. The game was a good honest game and the injuries are not representative of the attitude of either team. We finished very well and got it back to 2-2 after being 2-0 down with 20mins left. This gives us our first point of the season!

A very competitive game today with Pips sporting a strong side. Despite a reshuffle we still had a good side out and deservedly led through Bally. Then a defensive mix up saw pips equalise.

The game became very cagey second half with both sides going close before Pips scored on the break. Both Keepers were excellent with Ali producing a brilliant penalty save from Ken. Not to be today and another tough one next week.

Very pleased to get off the mark today, particularly after going behind in the second half. We never gave up but had to hold on once we took the lead late on. Our keeper made a couple of important saves but we always believe we have goals in us. TBC goals from Mark Beale (cracking free kick) and Cookie. SAS were obviously disappointed but very impressed with their attitude, led by Nath.

Of course! Referee got the decision right, obviously, and it's up to our player/team to act as they please.
Just sometimes hard to know when 'sporting play' begins and ends, especially in a league that values it more highly than others.
