BSX1 8 Pips 1.

A typical pre-season encounter with pips sporting a large squad and BSX1 trying out a new face or two. Indeed, Jason Statham lookalike Matt Walker showed up well for the stripes and it was good to see some of the Dazzle magic back, bagging 4 maybe 5 goals(tbc!). A good workout but not a result to take too seriously as Pips were trialing a host of new lads.

Yes, a good summary Jim. don't read too much into the scoreline.....

We looked ok at times, but get all the rustiness out and get the legs back into good working order and we should be fine. Interesting to note we were missing 8 potential starters but had a squad of 16!

Roll on to next week's friendly......let's hope it isn't so hot.

bsx1 3 bradley stoke 4

a good competitive game with our plans disrupted by niggling injuries to key personnel. Even with the gaffer in goal we led at half time and looked comfortable. Unfortunately we were stretched when Wellsy was forced off and eventually over-run. Overall, plenty of positives and the NCCF tourno to look forwar to on sunday. Surprised we are the only local side...

Suburbs 0 - 5 SAS (HT 0 - 5)

Certainly an interesting match although the second half was a little flat. In our first pre-season game we were against a decent outfit in Suburbs. They'll certainly do well this season. I think it's fair to say that it just took them longer to get into the game than us and the goals came at the right times for us meaning that we did pretty well the first half and played some nice stuff. Second half was a lot more of a struggle for us - tired legs, warm temperature, one sub, and Suburbs improving meant 0-0 for the second half.

Good game, good bunch of lads and looking forward to Castle Green on Saturday.

Pips 2-0 Marcliffe Sports

Played wednesday night, Marcliffe are a Sunday league team we played a few years ago, I think we have some connection somewhere?! Anyhow, another dishevelled match with a fair few rolling subs, a few more new faces with plenty of the starting XI missing. Maybe a few more things learnt for the season ahead. Goals from Iain Mac and Sol's dad!

One more friendly match and maybe a tournament for us before the big KO.

SAS Utd 2-2 Castle Green AFC

Good work out this morning against solid div 1 opposition. Fair bit of experimenting going on but a very worthwhile exercise.

Conceded a 2 goal lead late on but the result was secondary in importance to the performance. Happy with that showing for a first time out.

All the best to Nathan's boys, have a good season lads

Saturday Result

Counterslip 0-1 Welton Rangers (0-0 HT)
Goal: Adam Simmonds.

Lost his marker for a free kick to head home.

Good result, 10 times better performance than Suburbs and still have a few players to come back.

Saturday Result:

Nailsea 8 - 0 Bristol Pistols

A fiery encounter, but a good test for both sides and one in which we are hoping to build on. Big thanks to Bristol Pistols for helping me organise this game.

Quite impressed with Welton, who I thought played plenty of good football. Could do with a bit more up front as other than the goal, I don't think our keeper was forced to make a save, but maybe the players you were missing will add that to your game.

For us, second time in a row we've failed to beat Div 2 opposition, although we're still very much getting to know one another, and had a few important players missing. Hoping we have time to gel before the season kicks off in earnest!!
Only BCFA team to beat BSXI 4 times since 12th December 2009.....

Our new Goalie was missing, so Chubb went in goal, he usually plays upfront when Lenny's not playing. When back fit, he'd be up top I imagine, the lone striker we used Saturday was his first game for us and we don't know his best position yet.

Good Luck with your season, I'm sure things will click.

plenty of positives to take from Saturday's game (thank you Nathan for sorting pitch and ref out etc much appreciated)

couple of trialists came along and done well, is still a very young team as we go into this season, but a far better performance than the one vs suburbs.

got sas next Tuesday night and hillfields res Thursday night next week followed by a cup prelim vs hartcliffe bank hol weekend, so will be a busy week for the weltonians

BSXI 1-1 Castle Green AFC

Another useful run out tonight, BSXI worked and stretched us very hard as we expected them to with their quality, but that was the whole point of taking the fixture.

BSXI had lads missing and a few were evidently sore from Sunday's NCCF exploits, so there's really no point in boasting holding the champs to a draw. Having said that it was still a good education for our lads to come up against the quality of passing and movement the BSXI lads possess so they know what they need to aspire to.

From a personal point of view though, it was nice to rub shoulders with Jim once again after a few seasons. Good luck to you and your boys this season mate!

I concur. An excellent pre-season workout and i thought the Castle Green lads posessed sufficient quality and determination to be a major factor in Div 2 and will soon be rubbing shoulders in div 1 on a permanent basis.

Thanks for the game and good luck.

It is Frustrating I must admit missing the first two games of September is a tad annoying especially when you build your fitness up ready for the 3rd sept. Im almost resigned to a fixture backlog, if anything is to go by the last few winters we wont be playing at all in December,
Must be a tad frustrating when Ben emails about the deadline saying what dates people cant do ten is bombarded with a few more dates teams cant do after the deadline

but sometimes it cannot be helped (although when you have nearly 40+ players registrable I do find it hard when teams say they cant raise a side :P)

never mind I don't complain we just get on with it, hopefully we will sort out a friendly or 2 during those weekends,

Gives me a few extra weeks to rest up Cool

Castle Green AFC 3-2 Counterslip/Quality Finish XI

With Woodies down to 4 available as at yesterday, we quickly switched to taking on a combined Counterslip/Quality Finish XI. They were also meant to play each other but neither had a full team. I'm not sure the split, but I think I counted 9 Counterslip players.

Anyway it was another good work out for everyone involved ahead of next week's cup prelim round and nice for Castle Green to bring the curtain down on a tough pre season programme with a win.

Thanks for the game chaps and have a good season.

Next week it's for real.

3 of them were probably Quality Finish players too as Fordy, Millar and Cooky play for them as well.
Congratulations to Woodies.
