Suburbs 2 - BUCU 3

Great game today over at suburbs pitch. Quite difficult conditions with such a small pitch with a rain burst during the first half. We went 1-0 through a spilled shot that was tapped in by jack Edmondson. Suburbs then drew level through a good header. We had a few chances in the first half and should have built more of a lead.

Second half we started sluggishly and they hit us on the break, with a great ball over the top. We weren't really on top of it and it looked like a hard road ahead. We got one back through a long throw, jack latching onto his own flick on to head into the net. Suburbs were still penning us back and it was a real end to end game. We finally got our third goal on the break, a cross dispatched on the volley by ram hassan.

It was a great game though, really end to end and played in a good spirit.

A good summary of the game, a bit gutted to lose but we will move on and hopefully win our next game. Both times we have played BUCU they have played really positive football and they have a bunch of real nice lads.

Goals were scored by Dan Hull and Mitch Hayward.

Pips have just equalised in injury through a Ken penalty, extra time. Great game but Pips have been poor second half after leading 2-1 at HT. Lucky to still be in it. 3-3
Congratulations to Woodies.

Thought I'd join forum as wanted to say thanks for support tonight. Great to see some friendly (although usually opposing) faces! Really pleased with win, was a tough game and some of our lads took a battering. Makes me realise how special our league is!

Having already been booked, was kind of hoping Phil would either take his shirt off or jump into the crowd to celebrate his winning penalty.....although the ref seemed determined not to produce a second yellow for anyone last night!

Well done Pips, great result!

Yeah well played to Pips today, dug in to get it back to 3-3 at full time. Pips started the brighter and whenever they got Ali or Ken involved they looked dangerous. And it was an Ali ball through to Ken who gave them the lead. PNE resorted to kicking th elikes of Ken and the Pips wingers as they couldn't cope with their pace. They gradually came back into it and got a goal back from a bit of shaky Pips defending. However Pips struck back straight away after good work from Ali who put over a good cross for the winger to slot home. Then in the 2nd half PNE were the much stronger team and they equalised from a corner. Then they took the lead whilst having the better of the game. However, one of their men who had already got a yellow card should have got a 2nd for yet another crude late challenge but the ref bottled it and just gave him a talking to. Pips couldn't really get back into game until in injury time a great run from the left cutting inside saw another crude challenge from PNE and a penalty was awarded. Ken duly slot home.

Extra time came and went with only Pips looking like they could win it but without really having golden chances although the keeper saved well from a rasping Ali drive. But it stayed 3-3.

Penalties began and PNE scored first, Pips blazed over. PNE then blazed over, Pips scored. Can't quite remember the flow next but it was 3-3 with Pips having their 5th penalty to win the game but Pips hit the bar. Eventually it came down to Phil to win the game. Shocking penalty Phil Wink but it went in, maybe you gave him the eyes and we aren't giving you enough credit Wink.

Well done to Pip n Jay, a great win and you were a credit to the league, even Brian managed to restrain himself when one of their guys squared up to him (not a wise move IMHO). As Andy says, makes you appreciate our league even more. I wouldn't say PNE were a nasty side but they clearly couldn't compete with the pace of Ken so decided they would just kick him to stop him. Now if only we had thought of that a few weeks ago.........

You would think by now some of these teams would be expecting a tough game!

When we dumped a B&D team out of the GFA Primary earlier in the season, one of their lads asked one of our defenders what league we were from. He said "oh Bristol Churches League", then paused and added "only 2nd division tho". The lad's face dropped! BigGrin

The officials were pretty bad last night. One assistant stood 15 yards out of line from the defense! And the fourth official did nothing to control the benches, even when they were 20 yards out of their technical area shouting at the assistant. Great support from the fourth official.

And the 'fan' infront of is was ridiculous, some of the stuff he was coming out with was lol stuff. We had some good banter with him.
Congratulations to Woodies.

I think his best comment had to be that the guy shouldn't have got a 2nd yellow as it was a cup final and that would be harsh. Oh dear. And that 4th official was quite laughable with his lack of interest in doing anything, especially compared to the Hitler we had last year. When I suggested to him that he was "really earning his money tonight" Dan informed me they don't get paid. Blushing

Yes, shocking penalty - I did say to the lads after the match that I was lucky. One of my mates filmed it and I did slip slightly as I took the kick, I had planned for it to go into the bottom right corner. For a very brief second I though I thought the keeper was going to scramble it away with his legs. Still I megged the keeper to win the GFA cup!

Great night full of drama. Still don't know how I got booked for my first foul!!
