Slip 2 Hillfields 3.

Fully deserved win for Hillfields today. 2 sloppy goals made it 1-1 before HF took the lead. We pulled one back from the spot before Joe hit the winner.
Only BCFA team to beat BSXI 4 times since 12th December 2009.....

Woodies 5 Castle Green 2. Woodies had most of the play but somehow found themselves 2-0 after 30 mins with a goal that deflected off a wall from a free kick which was finished well and a cross that for all money looked like it had gone out for a goal kick but instead went in !! We got one goal back before half time and maybe actually it was 202 at half time, can't really remember. Ran away with it a bit in the 2nd half and played some great stuff at times without maybe quite having the finished product.

But an excellent run out against a decent CG side who were lacking a few players at the back but looked a tidy outfit going forward at times. Also they kept going for 90 mins which was excellent for our fitness. GFA quarters for us on Saturday.

Never a penalty Wink Sorry about that still finding my feet at centre back.

Really pleased with win today with a 3-2 victory.

Slip took an early lead with a great lob (possibly cross) but it beat every to nestle in the corner, however Hillfields replied instantly with Joe finding Uygar who got ahead of the defender and slotted home nicely. Hillfields then had a the better of the play with Slip restricted to long range shots and captian James guilty of missing a few good chances. Hillfields then earnt a free kick on the edge of the box through the super centre back paring of Rich (me) stopped a break for slip from a corner and Damiene was fouled on the edge, rich, James and Ash all lined up for the freekick and got in each others way with Ash gettign the shot off which took a defelection pass the keeper

HT 2-1

Second half Hillfields continued to make chances with the keeper making some good stops, however there were more gaps at the back allowing slip to look dangerous at the back, although they broke well, Slip final ball often let them down, however then came the moment of madness, Tim was passed to in the box and in a moment of what I would say was a combination of Hope and lazyness Rich took him down as he span well on the spot, thought the ref would off waved it away but shockingly Chris gave it. Slip just about netted it to bring the game level, however Hillfields didn't let up and contiued to press with Rich and Joe having a couple of long range shots (mine was better). However Joe wasn't to be topped by me and as a corner was half cleared he met it on the half volley to drive it low and claim the winner.

A good win, not always great football from either team but Hillfields did attack well and it was good to get some fitness and experience for some of our fringe players.

Cheers Nath and Slip for the game.

Not pretty from us at all. There were patches of good football but they were as rare as a Dan Flynn good goal kick. Rich could have given another pen away in the first half but the honest striker spared his blushes ;-)
Congratulations to Woodies.

Yes was expecting a spectactular dive.

You had a good shot near the end which went just wide after good play with Tim.

Useful run out today after the recent weather disruption and the Old Bristolians pitch played well even after a flurry of snow.

Pleased with the lads, it was a good test and one we needed. We were indeed short at the back with half the defence missing and lads having to fill in and we know it showed at times. However I thought we gave Woodies a decent game. Take away an offside for the second goal and a couple of individual errors that lead to goals and maybe just a one goal advantage and a woodies win would probably have been a fairer score line. Work to be done, but the club is progressing nicely.

Still we got what we came for, a tough game that would stretch us, a work out for 14 players and a bench mark of how we measure up against 1st division oppo.

Thanks to the Woodies lads for a good competitive friendly.

On the downside, Adam Inglis was whisked off to Frenchay Hospital after the game. News is not good. He has a cartilage tear which has locked his knee out and needs key hole surgery. Adam's season is over and we all wish him well in his recovery and he will be missed on the pitch

Don't think a cartilage injury could be prevented by a warm up.

Ian, sorry to hear about Adam's injury. Looked like an awkward landing on his leg. Not quite so sure about your analysis of only 1 goal difference being a fairer reflection in the game, we missed shed loads of chances in the first half and to be fair besides the two goals we conceded which were a bit fortunate for you, our keeper only made 1-2 other saves. Sorry to disagree with your analysis !!

Having said that, I agree that it was a good runout for both of us, especially as your young team never stopped which meant we had to work hard for 90 minutes.

Rich they say the older you get the further you drop back on the pitch! If you are still playing centre back when you're 47, then you can poke your tongue out all you like Flapper Flapper

Dan, yes we warm up and cool down after ever game and training session. Even some 1st div sides don't do that Whistle

p.s. your gaffer is right about cartilage injuries
