Have been umming and arring about put this up but on reflection have decided I will.
Last Saturday Jonathan our youngest ran a line on the Hillfields/WW game, (not that the game really matters in this instance) he was wearing his Bristol City shirt. On the way back to the car we passed a group of about 8-10 people a couple at least of which had been playing for a team during the morning as they were still wearing their playing kit. One of the group who was not wearing playing gave Jonathan some verbal abuse in reasonable colourful language because he was wearing a City shirt. I duly responded that there was no need for that kind of abuse, and ithat it was completely uncalled for.
Jonathan fortunately let it go over his head, but someone else may have reacted in a different way. I have an idea of which team he may have been associated with but only because of the colour of the playing kit that some of the group so cannot prove it, he may have just known them as friends. Had I been 100% certain I would have been in touch directly with the team manager.
Jonathan has just turned 15 and has always been willing to run the line if needed, as in a game between BSXI and Slip 3 years ago, and on occasions since.
This was not the best advert for the league where we are trying to get and are succeding in getting unsaved people involved in Church activites and as we have seen on the board some becoming Christians. I hope this kind of incident does not occur again.
Christopher

Christopher Just to check it wasn't anything to do with Hillfields as i'd like to address it if it was? we do have Rovers fans but can't imagine any of them doing that, i hope. Also just to say can't even remember him doing the line for our game so he must have done a good job Has seen 4 lads through his team become Christians in the last 18 months or so - How awesome is that?

Completely agree with you Chris. The Christians involved in the league all need to set an example. None of us are perfect, but we should still try to be. However, it is difficult to get those non-Christians in our teams to do the same. I hope whoever it was that made the remarks wasn't one of the Christians on the team, and took note of you saying language like that is not necessary! Glad you posted - it's always good to be reminded of the point of the league... it's the more important than actually playing football.

Chris - you are absolutely right to raise this. It's not what the BCFA is about, and we need to be aware when such instances take place. I hope it has'nt put your lad off. In fact it's a shame he didn't run the line during our game on Saturday instead of the Hillfields match (you know what I'm referring to!) and I would have even accepted him wearing his City shirt if he got the decisions correct!!

I think Chris should name and shame the team (at least to the committee) so it can be dealt with, even if it is my boys I'd like to know so that I can correct it deal with it as it's not something i'd expect or promote in my team. Mr Day Jnr could be the future of the BCFA officials and we don't want him or anyone else discouraged by anyone actually playing in the BCFA, also the manager of the team will most likely not know this has happened so it is worth letting them know.
