Counterslip 3-1 Castle Green

Bumped back down to Earth this week and learned some valuable lessons. A few sloppy mistakes in the first half were punished by clinical Counterslip finishing. Castle Green 3 down at the break.

Our 2nd half defending and organisation though was an improved display and we were certainly worth the consolation goal at the end.

On the balance of play and possession, I thought it was an even game and that was encouraging, but goals win games and we paid the price for some slack defending in the first half and some poor finishing throughout. If we are going to make daft mistakes like that though, it is better to get them out of the way now rather than from Sept onwards. That little bit of 1st division experience was the difference in Counterslip's favour. They kept it tighter at the back and took their chances, they were just that bit better at both ends in the final third.

Enjoyed the morning though and it's always good to meet up with some old friends.

All the best to Counterslip for the season.

Don't think I really have anything to add to that summing up of the game. Castle Green dominated territory, but we certainly looked more clinical going forward in the first half. Thanks to the keeper for the gift in the first half. Wink

2nd half fitness told a bit, as we didn't create a great deal, and as Ian said, the consolation goal was deserved.

Fitness definately told. We were just more clinical than them, 2 great goals by us and 1 mistake was the difference really.
