Hillfields 3 v Pip n Jay 3

Really good game for us today against a decent pips side (including Ken Oni??) they were however missing 2or3 regulars at the back with Ali acting as Centre Back for most of the game.

We controlled much of the first half counter attacking Pips with pace and we lead 2-0 at half time with goals from Aaron and James (pen)

HT 2-0

Despite losing Joe Allen at halftime (he had to go on a trip) we still controlled the game and lead 3-0 with a goal from uygar after good work from new signing Joe B. After that we made 7 changes to the team to give some of our youth academy players a go Wink, Pips got back into the game Brian (despite his petit size) managing to out header our defender and keeper to lob it home, Ali scored late on from a corner and with the last kick of the game, pips scored a pen (ken) after our player handled on the line despite it still going in.

I think it was a good performance from us again the big changes made a difference when we were in control but lots of positives and I think pips were more impressed than they thought they would be. Pips looked very decent especially when Ali played in the middle and I expect them (with Ken) to be a decent outfit for the new season.

Cheers Pips for the game.

Note to Eakes: Need advice on tapping up was trying it on with Ken but he wasn't having any of it Wink

Should have been a caution and a goal. That is not me criticising the ref!

Ah if only you were there, he blew as soon as the player handled then shortly after the ball went in. I am sure as a ref once you blow the whistle you have to stand by it as players stop???

Bit like Lehman getting sent off in CL final, ref blew for the foul and redded him, but had he waited two secs later it was in the back of the net and we would have seen a better final!!

On the caution side of things, if he handled on the line and it still went it on what grounds is that a yellow, surely if it is in there should be no yellow and if it doesn't go in it's a red. Not arguing that point with you just seems odd ruling :-)

Ah I did think maybe the ball didn't go straight in. Well in that situation, the player would recieve a red, as he denied an obvious goal scoring opportunity. Doesn't matter that the goal was scored after the whistle had been blown. Would be very harsh, but that's the rules as I understand them.

If a player handles it but it still goes in, then it's a yellow because he handled it deliberately but it's not a red because he didn't deny an obvious goal scoring opportunity. It does seem a bit odd, but imagine if the Suarez incident had been different and the ball actually went in. He'd deserve a yellow for trying. DOes that make sense?

Is Ken playing for Pips is he? He's still signed on with us. I thought he was still playing for Carmel's forst team in the Suburban league or whatever it is they play.

Yeah defo is, had him in my pocket most of the game Liar Well not really, but was really chuffed when I successfully tackled him once Dancing

Said we needed a striker and he was pretty certain about playing with pips.

SAS 4 - 0 Suburbs

Played our first of 3 pre-season games yesterday, up at Patchway. Suburbs were a decent team, and achieved promotion from Div 3 in their first season (according to them, anyway!). Reckon they should do OK in Div 2 this season.

Was only 1-0 at half time, but definitely sensed their heads drop after the second went it (and to be fair, we were on fine form for possession football).
From an SAS pespective, a really good run-out and the chance to look at 2 or 3 possible new signings, all of which looked pretty decent.

Goals from Jack Brady (20 yard screamer!), Dom Willetts, Steve Dayman & Christian (new-boy!)

Ken is willing to sign for us but unsure where that leaves his Woodies registration?? I think he is still going to play for Carmel as well. I was trying my best to keep this info under wraps (!). Missed game against Hillfields due to work but if Ali played centre half we must have been desperate for defenders!!

Think they said you had one possibly 2 of 4 you'd expect at the back.
