Ok, it had to be done. Who's been watching this then? First semi last night, and I have to say I was impressed. My memory of last year is that there was usually one act in the semis that you thought deserved to be in the final, sometimes there was a second, but sometimes not. Even the final had at least a couple of pretty bad acts. In fact, last year's comp could pretty much be accused of being more like Britain's Not Got Talent.

Last night's semi, was great though I thought. There was.......

ThreeBee - Bollywood dance group who were ok. Judges told them they had a shot at the final afterwards, but that was before they saw the other acts....
Olivia ??? - 14 year old singer. Thought she sang very well, as good as some of the other young singers they've had in the past.
Kevin Cruise - awful.
????? - guy who swallows things and regurgitates them. Slightly gross, sounds rubbish, but he did a trick where he took Amanda Holden's engagement ring and swallowed it. Then took an open padlock (I think, might have been locked) and swallowed that. Then swallowed the key. Regurgitated the padlock, which was locked, with the ring locked in it. Then brought the key up. Then, when Ant and Dec were doing the "This is the number to call..." bit, he suddenly coughed and regirgitated his mobile phone (which he must have swallowed before he came out. Brilliant!! BigGrin
Tobias ??? - Dancer. Very good moves. Must be the best solo dancer they've ever had.
Sean Sheehan - cut wood and sang. Crap.
Spelbound - Acrobats who were absolutely incredible.

I thought Olivia, swallow guy, Tobias and Spelbound would all be worthy of a place in the final. My personal votes would have gone to Spelbound and swallow guy (just ahead of Tobias as there will be other dance acts in the final, but nothing like swallow guy). In the end, Spelbound got through outright, and Tobias beat Olivia on the judges vote.

Threebee - was impressed but not blown away.
Olivia - was more impressed at her audition but she did very well.
Kevin Cruise - Brilliant. Absolutely hilarious. Loved him. Can really see him turning into the next Justin Lee-Collins.
Stevie Starr - very, very impressed. The padlock was locked before he swallowed it. There is a condition where you can have a pouch at the back of your throat, so I reckon he swallows stuff there, not into his stomach. But that doesn't explain how he got the padlock unlocked, put the ring in it, and then locked it again. Really impressive illusion (because lets face it that's all it is). But he did not have the phone already there. You could see him pop it into his mouth just before he spat it out!
Tobias - probably the best solo dancer ever on the show. Although George Sampson was only 14. Credit to the guy controlling the ball aswell.
Shaun - pointless.
Josh - (you forgot him Nath), thought he was put of tune for most of his performance but he does have the potential to be a pop star.
Spellbound - Simply incredible. Jawdropping.

Based on talent, I think the right 2 wet through but for entertainment value I would have also put through Kevin Cruise and Stevie Starr.

Can't believe you think Kevin Cruise was good. He was awful!!!

Yeah, I've discovered at work that I missed him putting the phone in his mouth. The consensus here is that he must have swallowed a ring in a padlock prior to coming out, so Amanda was in on it. She is supposedly an actress after all!!

Kevin was hilarious! Doing the west country proud.

Yeah that would make sense regaring Amanda being in on it. But he still manages to spit out things in whatever order he wants. Like in the audition when he produced numbered coins.

And also, Diversity were fantastic. Awesome. But I'm suspecting that Susan Boyle will perform at the final. Surely that's not right, she didn't even win!

Missed them (clash with Glee Blushing ), but Emily said she was surprised they did last night's show, and not the final. Maybe they are busy on Saturday with their tour? Saw them on that earlier on this year incidentally, and it was very good. Haven't seen a dance group this year to compare to them, or Flawless for that matter.

I agree that last nights final was very loaded there were definitely 4 acts worthy of a place in the final. Kevin Cruise and The Wood guy were horrendous!

My favourites were Spellbound and Stevie Starr.

There was a dance group on Saturday that wore all yellow and they were very good but wether they were better than Flawless, I'm not sure.

Shame on you, I watched a few episodes of that and it was chronic. Do you really still watch it?!?!
You could always just escape to the computer room and leave Emily to it.

I had a shower, shave and made my lunch for today first, but there was still 30 minutes of Glee left. Emily love it. When I get Sky+ though, I won't need to worry about missing things. Cool

There are a couple of things that are really beginning to annoy me about the show:

1.The ridiculous amount of adverts breaks.
2.The big fuss they make about the entrance of the judges.

Just get on with the talent!!!!

Some comments on tonights heat:

Taboo - Little bit chaotic with far too much going on. Although they were one of the better performers of the night. There are much better dance acts around though. 6/10

Neil Fullard - Pretty good vocal performance although he didn't wow me. Still one of my favourites from the heat. - 7/10

Ruby Girls - I get the feeling that the only reason this lot got put through was because Simon and Piers wanted something to perve at. Certainly not good enough for a final place. 5/10

Connected - Big disappointment for me. They sounded off key and picked a rather boring song. 5/10

Kev Orkian - Not as bad as the judges made out. Decent enough performance but had he been in a stronger heat I may have been more critical 6/10

Michael Fayombo Jnr & Snr I hadn't seen them before and thought they were pretty good however nowhere neer as good as Signature. - 7/10

Tina & Chandi I can't stand dog acts and really found this boring. 4/10

Maxxie Oliver I thought they usually left the best till last, but this guy is trully dreadful. You can be off key and funny. But this guy was just painful to watch. -3/10

Overall a very poor heat. Not one of the acts would have gotten into my top 5 last night.

Ben, agree with you about the ad breaks. Basically, they've allocated 90 minutes to the show. Take off 5 minutes at the start and the end, that leaves 80 minutes. You'd expect 6 ad breaks during that time (2 per half hour), with say 4 minutes per break being generous, so 24 minutes in total. That leaves 56 minutes for 8 acts to perform, which is 7 minutes per act. They don't need that long. Essentially, it's a 1 hour show that they're dragging out to 90 minutes.

I saw some of the acts last night. Missed Taboo, and not sure who they are from your comments. Saw some of Neil and he sounded good. Missed Ruby Girls and Connected. Kev Orkian was quite good, although I thought he should have been more upbeat. If you think about musical performers, whether it's cheesy pop, rock, whatever, you start a performance with an upbeat number, something to get the crowd going. You don't start with a quiet song. I think that's where he went wrong, but he is pretty good. Saw the last 3 acts, and I'd mostly agree, except I thought the dog act got better towards the end, and I'd score Maxxie Oliver 1/10 just for having the guts to turn up.

Overall, looks like a much worse semi than Monday night. I missed the voting show though. Who went through, who did the judges have to choose between??

From my scoring it looks like I gave Maxie Oliver minus 3 out of 10BigGrin .

The Dog act went stright through and the judges chose connected over Neil (2 to 1).

Neil should have gone through last night, although I don't think any of the acts are good enough to win.

Spelbound will win the final.

Not sure about Amanda being in on the whole padlock-ring thing, but I suppose it's possible... more plausible than a 3rd mini-arm inside the guy's stomach to lock the ring in the padlock! Although maybe he swallowed a midget before the show, and the midget is sat inside him doing the tricks? Or maybe he's an alien?

Tonights semi final looks a lot more promising.

The Arrangement - Classical Rock Group
Starburst - Dancers
Paul Burling - Impressionist
Chloe Hickinbottom - Singer
Peridot - Dancers
Christopher Stone - Singer
Jimmy Ford - Leprachaun act
Philip Grimmer - Madonna Drag Act

I think that Paul Burling will win this heat with Chloe and Chris in the vote off.

Really?? Wink

I think Paul Burling will need to do something really good to get through outright. I suspect the voting public are more likely to go for dancing/singing than his type of act.

I think Peridot will be in the top 3. Is Christopher Stone the young lad who sings soprano? Could be that his vote and Chloe's are split if they both do well. I wouldn't rule out The Arrangement getting into the top 3 either. I liked Paul in the audition, but I could see him missing out completely. A lot will depend on how they perform tonight I think.

There are two Dance groups too, so there could be a split there.

You always have a couple of poor acts even in the stronger heats.

I know, I was just messing around. Smile I agree it looks like a better heat. Then dance and singing votes in danger of being split maybe, unless one is clearly better than the other??

A vastly superior semi tonight.

Starburst - Good performance that would have stood out more if it wasn't for the strength of the opposition. - 7/10
Chloe H - Another strong confident performance. Great voice for someone so young - 8/10
Philip Grimmer - Cringeworthy, belonged in last nights heat. Was mildly amusing in parts. - 3/10
Paul Burling - Fantastic performance and in with a shout of a high finish in the final. - 9/10
The Arrangement - Not the most talented performance but very entertaining. 7/10
Jimmy Forde - This guy has several screws loose, I really don't get this act. 4/10
Chris Stone - Excellent again and has grown in confidence. Not a likely winner though. 9/10
Peridot - One of the best dance acts who would have strolled into the final in most other heats. 8/10
