first of all i hope the young bs4 lad makes a full recovery sounds a terrible injury (please keep us updated ian) im sure he will recover from this and he is a young lad so hopefully it will heal quicker!

Welton 2-1 Gordano

Craig maidment (2)

wasnt a great game to watch wasnt pretty and very difficult at times to play on due to the pitch not being in any great shape due to the terrible weather recently!!

went a goal behind which was deserved and thankfully the bristol churches league div 3 top goalscorer pounced on a mistake the keeper made to make it 1-1 and thankfully managed to score just before half time to make 2-1

2nd half should of really wrapped the game up and had it buried just couldnt get that 3rd goal credit to gordano as they were always in it as well with some chances but we just about edged it

gordano seemed a much improved side now with a bit of organisation so it seems which is i think is paying off now as you can see results wise

was quite a low key celebration not like the 1 a few seasons ago glad we have officially been promoted and look forward to coming back up to div 2 and hopefully staying there 2 promotions and 2 relegations in 4 seasons isnt good for the health lol mid table would be nice next season Whistle

obviously we would still like to win the league so there is still plenty of work to do on that side and still a few games to go to do that so will see! but its nice to take the weight of your back and get the job done credit to the squad they deserve it this season has been a real squad effort

cheers for the messages lads much appreciated and congratulations woodlands hopefully you can win the cup

I have literally just got home having gone straight to Frenchay A&E from the game. Luke is not doing well. His right knee cap is broken, possibly in 2 or 3 places (x-rays were not pleasant to see) and just before I left, Luke had been heavily dosed up on pain killers plus he had just been put in plaster from the top of his leg to his toes. He will be staying in tonight and they intend to operate tomorrow. His recovery could be a long one and with his job being a football coach, this will make life tricky in the coming months.

If you could keep Luke in your thoughts and prayer, I'm sure he will appreciate it.

Ian, so sorry to hear this. I'm sure you've probably already thought of this, but if Luke is working as a football coach then he may be able to apply to the GFA Benevolent fund? Here's the link: Benevolent fund.

Either way, thoughts and prayers are with him.

Really good point Davo. The benevolent fund is available to all clubs affiliated to the GFA and it doesn't matter what your job is. Please do apply and let me know how you get on.

To a certain extent someone's job doesn't matter, but I think that one of the criteria they would look at is whether the injury prevents someone working. In this case it would obviously have a really serious impact, less so with an accountant or other desk-job. Si, assuming you're still with the GFA then I think the application may need your approval if Luke chooses to go ahead with it.

Actually Tim is on council this year but I'm sure there will be no problems with supporting any application.

No surprise that "BCFA veteran" Dave Peregrine is the first to bring up the possibility of benefits........ Wink

Seriously though, hope Luke recovers fully and as quickly as possible, and congrats to Welton on their promotion (definitely expected I think).
Only BCFA team to beat BSXI 4 times since 12th December 2009.....

On this topic it became compulsory from next season for any SFA teams to have Personal Medical Insurance. What is the BCFA's stance on this? For example at the moment Clutton have cover and Welton will next season. You can claim £15 a week (cover levels vary this is with Cobra and cost £54) Hospitatlisation £25 a night, Dependant Benefit £25 a night, £150 for Broken Bones, £350 for Physio treatment amongst other benefits. I simply named the ones that may benefit this individual case.

The only time you run out of chances is when you stop taking them.

Nath, I think you could have claimed from the Santos Injury fund. I believe that ever since Si Baker joined the club they have put aside a % of the subs each season to defend law suits. However, thats just a rumour, not based on hard facts but to me sounds entirely plausible Wink

By the way, if anyone is interested there is a short video (go to my FB profile) of the first goal on Saturday, a diving header by Mike Serjeant after a deft flick on from a corner from Davo.

A really enjoyable game against SAS on saturday, who in the first half showed why they've beaten BSXI and caused a stir in the top league and I thought they have some very useful players (even though Nathan was struggling to get a team together!?). The league remains tight and the battle against relegation is very much alive, Thornbury have shown that they have a few match winning performances in the bag and Sanctuary have games left to make up the gap at the bottom. CC have been temporarily pulled down and I don't think we're out of the woods just yet.

It's going to be interesting to see how Woodies fair when they return to leaue action and attempt to make up all of their games in hand (11!) although in my opinion if they pick up a few wins in a row they won't be stopped. Although they still have to play us Wink and bogey team Slip twice (potential bannana skins).

Big congrats to Welton on their promotion today, well done lads, much deserved.

Great win for us today, we were a bit troubled by their long ball (wind assisted) in the first half and they were unlucky not to score although we had a couple of great chances. 2nd half we totally dominated and should have ben 3 or 4-0 up but couldn't find the killer goal once Mike headed in on about 55 mins. Great team effort today, effort and attitude across the pitch was first class all the way through. Can put the cups aside for a few weeks and get some league games under our belt.

The final versus St George Rangers is on Tuesday 30th March. Thanks for the support from Ralph and Ticks on the sideline today.

I played against St George Rangers today so if you want some info, let me know!!

Did you win?

Lost 2-0 but I was expecting them to be much better!

Able to give any more info? What is their gameplan? Where are they weak? Watched them last year and they basically seemed pretty organised and were all about getting the ball out to the flanks and using their pace there.

Interestingly, for all our fixture problems it seems like St George also have quite a tough run-in as well (though not quite as bad, as their league finishes later). They still have another 13 league games to play this season and not sure if they're in any other cup competition at the moment.

Maybe a afternoon recon might be in order this Saturday or the next few saturdays?

Details on about their home pitch or next game?

Actually, they are having to play 6 games in a fortnight at the end of the season so I would say that's worse than any team in our league.

However, they have made things worse for themselves, they haven't arranged any mid week games til late April whereas we are starting early April. They still have one less game to play than us between now and the end of the season but have over a week (including 2 Saturdays) more than us to fit the games in.

Unfortunately, the team I played in against them didn't have any strikers to seriously test their defenders. They played a wing-back formation which pushed us back quite deep when they attacked, however opened them up to all sorts of problems when we got the ball. Their right-sided centre back was the best of their back-line.

In midfield, they played with an attacking midfielder, moving around in the hole behind the front two. He captained the side (so look out for him!) He proved difficult to mark and was the main man in most of their attacks. Another central midfielder stood out, a red-haired fella with very tricky close control.

Their wide men were pretty quiet, not offering many crosses (not sure if this was down to our full backs playing so well..... guess where I play!) and the front two were far from mobile. They were very quiet.

As a bunch of lads, they seemed alright. Sometimes in our league we come up against some right arrogant players and as they're top, undefeated in the league, I expected them to be like this. They were competitive but played in a fair manner.

Hope this helps you to victory!!!

Craig.
