Firstly i am surprised that this thread has not started yet (are they still thinking "next season"?) but also surpirsed none of the Liverpool fans have talked about the main news of the day. Liverpool sign Bent. . . . . . . . . . . . . . Wait for it . . . . . . . . . . . . .

I don't think they can even afford Bent :lmao: "Ashton will never get in your boat Kirbs. He’s too much of a chirpser." Nathan Redshaw, 16/07/2009.

Going to be interesting for Liverpool. A few weeks ago there was a huge amount of optimism about the next season (what's new!) and now they're in a bit of a financial crisis and look like they're going to need to give in to Real's inevitable bid for Alonso - the player wants to leave anyway and I don't think Liverpool can afford to turn down the cash. For my money he's a player that would be key to their title challenge and not someone that could be easily replaced with the kind of money available. I actually think that it could be Liverpools defence that lets them down next season. I don't think Carragher will be the force he has been for the past few years and the full backs available (though I do think they're excellent players) aren't necessarily the best in terms of offering protection down the flanks. Expect next season to be close though. If Ancelotti settles quickly I think Chelsea could be favourites. If Arsenal avoid injuries they'll definately be up there. If Torres/Gerrard stay fit and they can make signings then Liverpool have a chance. Don't expect Man U to be as strong this year though. Ultimately, its hard to look past Man City as title favourites!!!!

Pretty decent summing up there Davo. The optimism at the end of the season has been wiped out in one fell swoop by our useless owners. No idea how much money we have to spend, but I suspect we'll need to sell first, so I can't see us getting the two or three players we need to take that extra step. I can see Alonso going, which would be massively disappointing, but at least we have Lucas. I'd like to see us go for Tuncay. I don't think he'd cost too much, and he's a much better player than most people realise. Only BCFA team to beat BSXI 4 times since 12th December 2009.....

But better than Bellamy and Keane when you bought them? I don't think so. I'm going to be proven wrong here I'm sure but I can't remember the last time a Premiership player moved from a mid-table club to one of the big 4 and was immediately successful. All the successful players are either "home-grown" (loose definition for Man U and Arsenal there) or imported from top sides overseas. I can think of lots of non-successful purchases as well as the two above - Berba, SWP, Saha, Sidwell, Benayoun. They were all top players at previous clubs but seemed to lose form on joining a big club. The P'Ship transfers that do work are normally for young players - eg Rooney, Walcott, Lampard. Tuncay wouldn't fall into this bracket.

Suffer because of the money loss? No. We've been in debt ages so not going to make much difference IMO. Congratulations to Woodies.

Sorry, yeah, Carra being past it was complete rubbish, but I bet there's plenty of United fans who would have told you a week ago that no way was Ronaldo gonna leave and join Real. No-one said Carragher was past it did they? Just not now at his peak which was probably 1-2 seasons ago. Thats probably a fair summing up. Still a very good premiership defender though.

tuncay is class i dont think many people realise how good is he alright he didnt score many goals for middlesbrough this season but look at the service he was given not a lot hence why they went down hard to score goals if you dont get the service!! he would be a very good signing whichever premiership club takes him Job completed Division 3 BCFA Champions

With Kaka and Ronaldo both on their way to the Bernabeu Alonso may not be able to resist. Then again hopefully he will decide against playing alongside the self glorifying ponce that is Christiano Ronaldo.

Madrid can buy all these top attacking players, but let's not forget, their defence is shocking, that's where they need to improve. Congratulations to Woodies.

Hat trick for Torres today as Spain beat New Zealand 5-0 in the Confederations cup. All his goals came in the first half.

Looks like Liverpool lead the way for Glen Johnson. Should be a good signing, even if he is ridiculously overpriced.
Apparently Madrid are losing hope of getting Alonso as well. Could this finally be Liverpool's year?
