Anyway, cracking win for Murray after a nervy start. Can't see either Tsonga or him beating Fed though.

Do you fancy him more than Kournikova?

What time will the final be then? If it's an 8am start then we'll be able to go to church aswell after Fed wins in straight sets.
Congratulations to Woodies.

Last year, I can remember picking Emily up from work about 1pm desperately hoping that she'd be out on time so I could rush home and catch the end of the Rafa-Fed game (she wasn't Angry). So, if it was finishing around 1pm, it was probably about a 5 hour match, so an 8am start sounds about right.

Bit of a pain as that clashes with my Match of the Day viewing time. Boo hoo!

Both Andy Murray's evening games have started at 8.30am.

You are an Idiot. Why must you continue with this anti-murray charade.

He's arrogant and Scottish i'm with Dan on this one. Federer is a true professional.

Admittedly he is not the most likeable of characters but he is the best chance Britain have had at winning a Grand Slam in over 70 years so why not get behind him? Federer meanwhile has won 16!
Don't bring up the "Me not wanting Hamilton to win" thing. Britian has had no shortage of success in F1 over the past 50 years.

To say Murray is arrogant is just wrong, how is he arrogant?? He makes one comment about wanting England to lose at football and suddenly he is anti English. Just rubbish. Fair enough to be a bigger fan of Fed Dan but its actually your dislike of Murray that is ridiculous.

Ben, Federer's won 15 slams hasn't he? Or are you saying it'll be 16 if he wins this one.

I think people don't like Murray because he's too much of a winner. Brits love a gallant loser (Bruno, Henman etc), and someone with a winner's mentality is perceived as being arrogant.

I surprised they love Redgrave and Hoy so much! You can't be much more of a winner than them.

That's the point. The only time Brit's love a winner is if there's a bit of public school "nice but dim" about them. Fortunately that fits the "expensive" sports which we excel in - rowing, horse riding, sailing.

I'm not saying he's arrogant and I'm not saying he's anti-English, I just don't like him as a person. He's a good tennis player, don't get me wrong, but I just don't like him! He's just so boring when he talks or gives interviews. I'm sorry for not liking him.

Federer is pretty boring as well. In fact there is a serious lack of players with personalties around now. Bring back the Nastase's, Bahrami's and Leconte's of the game I say.

By the way Dan, if anyone is arrogant, listen to these Federer quotes today about Murray:

I think he really needs it more than I do, so I think the pressure's big on him,"
"Now that he didn't win the first one, I think doesn't help for the second one around, plus he's playing me, who's won many Grand Slams prior to that, been able to win here three times so I know what it takes and how to do it, which is definitely an advantage."
"He's one match away. I'll make sure it won't happen."

By the way, I don't think Federer is arrogant, but if Murray said these things he'd be accused of it !!

This is something that gets on my goat a bit. People moan that sports stars are boring, and long for the "personalities" that we used to have (e.g. the McEnroes etc). But, when they were around, they were largely criticised for their behaviour, so young people growing up have learnt that it's wrong to behave like that, so make sure they don't step out of line when in front of the camera.

I'll use a more recent example - Mourinho. He is definitely a personality, but bar Chelsea fans, most fans of other teams hated him and thought he was a knob. Yet there's no doubt he added personality to the Premiership.

Of course, there's always the odd person who manages to show "personality" without alienating peope - Usain Bolt would probably be a good example here, but I'd say they're fairly rare.

I wonder, if any of us were famous and were interviewed regularly on TV, how many of us would come across as having wonderful personalities, and how many would be perceived as "boring". 99% in the latter category I'd bet.

But you can be arrogant if you can back it up with major trophies! Federer can be as arrogant as he wants, he's the greatest ever.
Congratulations to Woodies.

Hmm. I kind of agree with Dan on that one. It's a strange feeling. Wink

I actually think he's just playing some Fergie-style mind games. The BBC headline on it is spot on - "Federer piles pressure on Murray". He's sowing as many seeds of doubt in Murray's mind as he can.
