Some referees are happy to take the risk. You can't blame us for using the rule book. You'd blame us if we didn't! Congratulations to Woodies.

I was surprised to hear that the game was off. Over in Failand where the temperature is consistently 1-2 degrees colder the pitch was very playable. It was a bit hard on top but underneath it was very soft. In a few patches where the grass was bare it was still quite hard but it took a stud immediately. Hard to be critical of the ref though as Dan says. We had two willing teams and a ref happy with conditions. The sun was taking effect such that 5-10 minutes into the game there wasn't any ice at all.

Failand is a lot more sheltered than the bawa. I'm surprised so many games went ahead though. Congratulations to Woodies.

I think the difference is that failand gets the sun as soon as it is up.

Watched WW/TBC at Bath Uni. The pitch that I mentioned the week before that has got a very wet patch when it rains would have been unplayable at 10.00AM on Saturday as the ruts were frozen solid despite it being in the sun. There were some very big ruts in the goal area, It was still not playable at 10.45. The Pitch used was a bit crunchy on the touchline that was sheltered by the trees (at least according to the linesman on that side) but soon softened up as the sun got round. The big advantage with the pitch used was that it was flat and no ruts and so soon softened up. Still it is the Refs call as Dan say's, we can't win on this one. As Dan say's he was surprised how frozen BAWA was, as was I with the one pitch at Bath Uni. The frost seems to have been a worse than forecast.
Jonathan should have been playing hockey at Failand on Saturday morning 10.30 start (Firebrands not OB's) it was called off at 10.15 as the astro was still frozen solid.
