I guarantee we will get Woodies.

Definitely, ex Thornbury Town players who broke away, fed up with "outsiders" coming into the club.

Thrashing Carmel Utd is no mean feat and a fair marker of just how good they are

Played 8, won 8 in league.

Have easily gained promotion from div 6 and 5 in last couple of seasons.

Wonder how high they can achieve.
Congratulations to Woodies.

From what I've heard, it may not be till they hit Premier Combination until they start to meet their match

Kind of what we found when we played st George rangers two seasons ago in the final. They were A newly formed team who won div 6 easily and were put up to div 4 and won that easily but folded after they beat us in the final. Maybe they thought it couldn't get better than beating Woodies Wink

I saw bits of the Real T game on saturday from about 150 yds away as they were playing Carmel at Wellsway School where youngest was playing Hockey.

They were 4-0 up in 12 mins and I think 6-1 at half time. They did look good.

We were well pleased with the 3-6 result! Just gutted to have drawn them in the first round. Definitely a team to avoid.

By the way, a warning to all teams playing in the GFA Cup - I have been severely rapped on the knuckles by Gerry Witcombe over our game at the weekend. Essentially because we can't get our pitch on Saturday afternoons I contacted the oppo and they agreed to have the game played at their place. I informed the ref and he was happy. However, late on Thursday Gerry changed the ref allocated to our game. He claims to have emailed me and the ref but neither of us received an email - the ref only found out he was supposed to be doing a game because he looked at the GFA fixtures on their website. So he turned up to our home ground on Saturday expecting to see us there but alas nothing, so he contacts Gerry and says what happened. I told Gerry about the switch and he tells me that I am supposed to clear this with him.

Anyway, after much apologising and eating of humble pie accepting that I was totally in the wrong I think he has accepted it was a genuine mistake. I got the impression that he was close to throwing us out of the cup for breach of cup rules. It has however cost us the price of 2 referee fees !!!

So if you change a venue, contact Gerry and get his OK.

Well we had 3 different refs assigned to our GFA Cup match and when ringing all 3, none had been advised that they had been appointed to the game and the ref who ended up doing the job asked me after the match if his appointment was official because he had still had nothing from the GFA and had only turned up because of my phone call to him.

To be fair, on one occasion when I spoke to Gerry about the ref situation, he did spell out the volume of work involved with 20 odd GFA Cup competitions, getting results in and publicised in umpteen newspapers etc on a weekend.

I was left in no doubt that he's not keen on BCFA teams individually supplying results, or doing so late or not at all on occasions. I got the impression he would prefer us to follow other leagues, ie clubs phone their own league sec by 5pm them each league sec rings Gerry.

I think we prob should sort this out to be fair to Gerry

This answers a puzzle that I had on Saturday. Stephen was playing Hockey against OB's and when he came home I asked him if he saw Woddies playing. answer was that there was no football going on only 2 games of rugby.

Chris, what is really annoying about that as well is that we wouldn't have needed to switch our game - we were told that another team had a home game that day but it turns out they didn't. Just as well we didn't pay for another pitch !!

Ian, I didn't realise that was what other leagues do. I think you are right that we should co-ordinate this. Maybe it's my way of getting back in his good books. I would be happy to collate the primary and intermediate game results and ring Gerry going forward.

I was considering doing the same. I'll call you later for a chat. I think a dedicated GFA Cups rep would also be good idea to encourage BCFA teams to take part and be a contact for advice to clubs, as well as submitting results.

Agreed, good idea. (I'm not offering myself for the role though). Alternatively, just tell Gerry to look on Twitter for the #bcfaresults posts. Wink

OCR lost 5-0, apparently their oppo were very good. They probably weren't, just had it easy cos Jonty was on the pitch.

Dan youre hilarious. did you get player of the year last year....@@
Yeah St Nicholas were very good, would be up there with the top div one sides. Passed the ball extremely well, very comfortable playing out from the back and outplayed us big time!

Scoreline flattered us a bit as Racing were dangerous going forward and had several good chances. Great bunch of guys to play against and thought the
game was played in a really good spirit.

I would just like to say, I scored the greatest own goal of my (or anyone elses) life in this game and I would appreciate the decency of being credited with it Wink . Diving Header to the top corner. Not a nice game to play in and to rub salt in the wound they're a bunch of really nice guys!
