http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/oddballs/880579-dnipros-samuel-inkoom-sent-off-for-removing-shirt-while-being-substituted#ixzz1cgHMZZmAStrange story here, which got me thinking. At what point is a player considered as substituted? Presumably it's when he actually crosses the line to leave the pitch, as this guy had had his number shown and was walking off, but according to the article, his team then had to play with 10 men? How hacked off would you be if you were the player coming on? Only BCFA team to beat BSXI 4 times since 12th December 2009.....

This is one where refs do themselves no favours. There is a reason why there is a yellow card for taking your shirt off (for which I am not totally clear on but I think I kind of understand) but this instance is not one of those occasions, the guy is just making his way off the pitch. Technically the ref is right, but surely some common sense prevails and this should not have been a yellow. No doubt Dan will come on here and say otherwise.

If the substitution has been called and the player leaving the field takes his shirt off I would only take action if the tee shirt he was wearing underneath had an offensive slogan on it.

Strange one but the referee is right. Always blame the ref though, apart from Ramos (Dnipro's manager) who blamed the player. Rightly so, as Ramos said, everyone knows you can't take your shirt off. Would be interesting to know if an assessor would mark you down if you didn't caution the player. Players know that law so by blame the referee? Congratulations to Woodies.

Because I thought the law was introduced so as not to incite the crowd after a player has scored. Hardly think he was doing that..... Only BCFA team to beat BSXI 4 times since 12th December 2009.....

I don't think that was the reason was it? I thought it was due to possible incitement of the crowd? Only BCFA team to beat BSXI 4 times since 12th December 2009.....

If it was for what you said Dan, then it's even more stupid from the ref as he was going off, so wouldn't have delayed play trying to get it back on! On another note, nice to see the ref the other day DIDN'T book Billy Sharp when he lifted up his t-shirt to reveal a message about his son who'd died at 2 days old. Common sense prevailing for once. Only BCFA team to beat BSXI 4 times since 12th December 2009.....

They were getting cheesed off as players would have their pictures in the papers and on TV after scoring - but the Sponsors logo was nowhere to be seen as the player had removed their shirt. Once again - commercialisation running the game ......... PIE MAN

Absolutely. I think someone may of had a word with the referee before the game as I doubt referees read what's on the shirt, they just automatically caution them. Congratulations to Woodies.

there was also a minutes applause before the kick off, so the Match officials would have been fully aware of the circumstances. I gather from the report that I read that the Ref was given a huge cheer when he did not take the yellow card out of his pocket.
